As a twelve year-old girl, Kirsten begins experimenting with homemade herbal skincare recipes from her mother's collection of natural health books.
Kirsten moves to a house where she plants an herb garden of her very own and continues making her own beauty treatments. She tries several commercial skincare lines, but remains happiest with the products she makes herself.
First body care formulas created
Kirsten moves to the Middle East and takes advantage of many unique travel opportunities. Her job in a Saudi Arabian hospital inspires her to create hand and nail concentrate with healthcare workers in mind. Her travels (and fear of mosquito-borne diseases) lead to the creation of the very effective, completely natural Perfect Bug Spray. She sprays on her pillow and hair every night, successfully avoiding bug bites – and the product continues to be a best-seller, especially in the summer.
The entrance of Chinese Herbs
Kirsten begins formally studying Chinese Medicine at Han University in Tucson AZ. Her particular interest is Chinese Herbology and her studies aim towards board certification in that area. She begins incorporating Chinese herbs into her own skincare regimen.
Virga Botanicals is Founded
To put herself through acupuncture school, Kirsten launches Virga Botanicals – a skincare line based on her 30 years of experience with herbal beauty formulations that also reflects her affinity for cosmetic acupuncture. She begins incorporating Chinese herbs and herbal theory in the creation of her products. Virga's first formulas include commercial versions of products Kirsten had herself used for 30 years: Triple Rose and Neroli face creams, Green Tea Light Facial Moisture Serum, and Gentle Creamy Facial Cleanser, as well as the Hand and Nail Concentrate and Perfect Bug Spray. The facial products are used in the acupuncture clinic at her school.
Virga Botanicals continues to add new formulas to its line, including several perfumes with notes of Chinese and Eastern botanicals. The best-selling Spice Market is created to evoke the sense of the open-air spice 'souks' of the East.
400 Beverly makes a strategic investment in Virga Botanicals. Kirsten (CEO) is thrilled about the possibilities this new relationship will mean for the future of her brand.
“This gives us a real opportunity to strengthen the brand and increase our distribution through additional sales channels and markets.”
